Why We’re a Little Bit in Love with Robert Gordon

There are some brands that just seem to fit. Fit your home, fit your kitchen, fit the way you like to live and for us, Robert Gordon is one of those brands.

We've always loved things at Loaves and Fishes that are beautiful but not precious. Things you can actually use every day, that become part of your home and your routines. Robert Gordon has a wonderful Australian family story behind it.

The story began back in 1945, when June Dyson and her husband Colin Gordon started their pottery business in Victoria. June had studied pottery at RMIT and went on to build a life around clay, creativity and making beautiful, useful things.

Many years later, their son Robert Gordon; known as Andy continued the family tradition, establishing Pack Track Pottery with his wife Barbara in Gembrook in 1978.

What started in a little tin shed grew into the Robert Gordon we know today, with the family still very much involved in the business.

And that family connection is something we really love. There's something special about buying something for your home from a business that has spent generations learning its craft.

For us, the best homewares are the ones you don't have to think too much about. You don't put them away for a special occasion. You use them. Every morning. Every dinner. Every Sunday lunch.

Robert Gordon pieces have that feeling. They're practical and functional, but they also have personality. Beautiful glazes, lovely colours and those little variations that make pottery feel much more interesting than something that has simply come out of a factory looking exactly the same as everything else.

Being here in Robe, we're naturally drawn to Australian brands. We're surrounded by incredible landscapes, beautiful food, hardworking growers and makers, and a very relaxed way of life. There's something about Robert Gordon that feels at home in that environment.

They're made for real homes and real life; which is exactly how we like things at Loaves & Fishes.

We don't think you need to completely change your home to make it feel special. Sometimes it's just one beautiful thing.
